Film Camera A Month

I love film so this year I've decided to start a new feature using one film camera a month across 2017. I have this dilemma where I'll be heading out the door, glance at my film cameras, get overwhelmed, throw a few in my camera bag (alongside my digital) and head out the door. What usually ends up happening is my digital camera is favoured and my film cameras become sad heavy weights. I was thinking of ways around this, ways to inspire myself to use film and I decided that scaling back could be the solution.

Feel free to join in yourself!

Logistics are a little tricky, so I've decided to start with my hi-matic camera for January (already having a half roll of film in it). I think what will happen is I'll put my roll (hopefully rolls!) of film to get processed around the 20th which will give me time to scan and blog them by the end of the month. After the 20th I'll start using the next camera for the new month to get the ball rolling. I'm going to mix up my cameras, between my instants and my more experimental cameras alongside those I know are quality - hopefully I can also learn a few things along the way :)

So here's to a happy year of film!

  1. *screaming* oh my gosh this is such a perfect idea! I have so many cute, functional, quality film cameras sitting around my apartment but I have fallen out of use with them. I always fall back on my digital cam as well. This is SUCH a good idea, I'm definitely joining in! Can't wait to see your photos :)

  3. I really need to start exploring film. It's something I alway say "do it!" when I come by your blog and then sits on the wayside when I leave. Sigh... I can't wait to see what you have in store for this series!

    1. I think the bad photos or rolls of film not even turning out puts me (and others?) off but I try to have the mindset that it's okay if they don't (hard for me to do though!). You should make yourself a really simple goal, like 3 rolls of film for the year - or 2 or 1! Or try and do 1 whole roll just of Bartles over the year? Just some crazy ideas :P

  5. Oh!!! I absolutely love the idea! I am looking forward to see all the series. We are always talking with Dani how we should get an analogue camera to replace our LC-A+ that stopped working, but we are always unsure which would suit us better, so it will be the best opportunity to take a peek at your lovely collection and see how the pics turn out each month (biiig yay!)

    1. I've learnt so far that I really appreciate non-toy cameras but there is a time and place for toy cameras too!
