Our Chickens

I love our chickens they make really great pets, they can be super friendly if you give them some love and they give you presents daily. Plus grain is cheap and they love eating left overs :)

We have four chickens and I have found that the two black ones seems to dominate but it's not as bad as other times when there was only one chicken getting picked on by the rest. I tend to give out lots of little piles of grain so there is no squabbling around feeding times :)

The lightest brown one, Ella did get clucky she would sit on the nest 24/7 it was sad to watch. With clucky chickens you kind of have to be cruel to be kind, we made her an isolation cage, the theory behind them is that they're so uncomfortably the chicken is put off being clucky. She was in her isolation cage for three days, with water and food but not much else and thank goodness it worked - she is now back to being her happy chicken self, joining in with the others :)

Oblina the coolest chicken ever!

I'm so stoked to share this post :) Guess who finally got her own chicken!! A few weeks back Daz, Lowie, Ben and I went down and visited this crazy bird lady on the Coast (only crazy because she has a lot of birds!!!) The boys have always had chickens but this was my first time getting to pick my own! We made our way to the pen with all the chickens inside and everyone had to grab one. I think Daz was first, he got himself an Isa brown which he named Ella (after a German backpacker?!?) lol. Lowie was second and got himself a black chicken with brown neck feathers, which he called Mumma, after Mother Teresa. Mumma put up a fight and we suspected she was going to be the most rowdy of the bunch! Next came Ben and he plucked up Pot Pie another Isa Brown! Finally came fee, yes lucky last (I'm not a very good chicken catcher) luckily along came Oblina, the best chicken ever who let me pick her up with no hassle or fight!

On the way back I was thinking I had picked the chicken that was going to get bullied, history had taught us that chickens have pecking orders! I had to rush off to work and when I arrived home I got the chicken update and guess who was the leader...Oblina!! Wow. She is the friendliest chicken, she comes over when you feed them and she is so cute and awesome! The other chickens are nice too but Oblina is the best (I hope none of the boys read my blog!). I have some serious chicken love!

P.S. you're officially cool if you know where the name Oblina comes!

Goodbye Snubs

Our favourite chicken Snubs/Paul passed away the other day. He was definitely the coolest chicken, a bit of a loner but the most friendly to humans. He had a bad beak so he was definitely at the bottom of the pecking order but I think he was definitely the raddest. We still have three chickens left though and they are coo too, I just had a soft spot for snubs! Anyway here are some pretty pictures of our garden...the house, I'm currently living at and which Ben's friends have lived in for ages, is going up for auction on the 15th of June, so I'm possibly soon to be homeless again...time for another change? My life has definitely been influx this last year and I'm definitely ready and happy to settle down.

Isn't that one impressive bee hive? It's hidden down the back of there place, I hope whoever buys the property if it sells, doesn't lop down this tree!!

House Sitting at Lucy's

On the weekend Ben had to animal sit for his friend Lucy and I tagged along :) Lucy has the coolest place and the nicest animals. Her brother also has my favourite dog ever, Beamer but he was out having his own adventures, so it was just Ben, me, the chickens and Tyler, the cat :). I'll blog about Tyler later (I took way too many photos) for now, some of my fav shots from Lucy's place :) By the way Lucy has cable, oh my goodness my trash, reality tv dreams were fulfilled!

Chickens!

So I'm back up the coast, Ben is back, his house has chickens and I'm chillin' here for the next two weeks :) Lowie is making me herbal concoctions for my ankle and today I headed to a horse shop for some horse strength gel/clay cures, the lady at the shop was surprisingly non judgmental. Catz another one of Ben's room mate is advocating the physio so with all these powers combined hopefully I'm up to driving within a week and I can start work and stay up here :) That's the plan!

Ben took me car-park driving the other evening and I can drive but not how I should be, I'm still hobbling but still staying positive :) *fingers crossed*

It's nice to see chickens roaming around the garden again :)
