Johor Bahru

Both Hello Kitty Town and Legoland are located in Johor Bahru in Malaysia, since we would be traveling north afterwards I decided accomodation close to legoland would be wise.  Warm Blanket Hostel came up in my search - budget friendly and the closest to legoland with the best reviews. 

I was probably expecting a little more than we got, it was very basic so much so that they didn't even provide a towel.  It was here we also stumbled upon the Malaysian water hot water system which left us having cold showers for the next two nights! A tip for those ever traveling in Malaysia they like providing a hot water switch outside the shower! I don't regret picking Warm Blanket since a cab from Legoland to our accommodation only costs 22RM (under 10 aus. dollars) and outside, lining the street that night were food vendors :)

These skewers were my top pick not surprisingly picked by Ben - I have a history of always choosing the least tasty option :p

Case in point that bamboo wrapped parcel, yikes, we couldn't finish whatever was inside!

This burger guy was the best! Seriously so much love and time went into our burgers, he even wrapped our meat up in a egg, like a little present :)

After hanging out in some plastic chairs that night (Malaysia seems to love plastic chairs) and a sound sleep at Warm Blanket we caught a cab in the morning to Larkin about 15 minutes away, where we boarded a bus to take us to Malaka! We got there early so we decided to explore the adjacent shopping centre and we ended up finding cats! How awesome :) I swear you'd never see a cat in a shopping centre in Australia, well none that I've been too anyway. It was awesome and a fun way to pass our time

And then we boarded a bus, an amazing pimpin' bus with each seat being worthy of first class title.  I had no issues spending the next three hours sprawled out in my recliner! Luxury guys :)

Legoland - Malaysia

After Hello Kitty Town we asked the info desk about a bus to legoland they gave us a timetable (still no watch) and we made our way to the bus area. The majority of Malaysians we met were ridiculously helpful, their generosity being completely genuine as well.  The taxi guys waiting near us actually motioned for a bus a stop and everyone waited for us to get on, turns out it was the wrong bus but we were clueless so any help was great.  Now the taxi guys could of benefited from that situation, you know offering there services but they didn't and we hoped on the next bus :)

Now legoland, costs 140 RM about 50 Australian dollars, again I'm not sure if it's completely worth that but will probably depend on how much you like Lego. Ben and I like Lego but our overall impression of the park was that it was aimed at young kids. We decided we probably would of had more fun at Universal Studios in Singapore but I still really enjoyed legoland :)

My favourite part was probably all the little details, like these kids gate jumping at the entrance and that toilet sign made me giggle

We went on a bunch of rides including, this one above called Dino Island which lives in the Land of Adventure (the park is made up of 6 areas).  We ended up going on this ride twice.  We were insanely lucky there were no cues - I'm not sure how that happened, since it was a Sunday, the first weekend of school holidays in Singapore and for the first time on our trip, the weather was sunny! Anyway totally no complaints, I think I would of enjoyed legoland a whole lot less if I had to cue up! Dino Island btw is Legoland's version of splash mountain and luckily for me a whole lot less scary! 

This is in the Lego Kingdom section and is the entrance for the Dragon Ride :) 

The fire hydrants above were part of the Lego rescue academy were you control your own fire engine and have to put out a fire, Ben and I, well mostly Ben came first place! woohoo take that small children!

These little guys are in a ride where you get to shoot stuff with a laser gun, It's fun and dark and Ben totally whooped my butt. I thought I was doing really good too until we compared scores at the end :(

The flags! Possibly one of my favourite Lego pieces, actually I liked all the Lego in the kingdom area probably because our neighbours had the castle set when I was little and I was jealous!

I like how he seems a little scared of me, I probably approached way too enthusiastically but then in the second photo he did the peace sign with me! Well I think that's what he is doing :)

Dino Island again! You get seriously splashed on this ride, probably the most I've ever been wet on a ride. The first time was good because my underwear didn't get soaked through and since it was super hot, the dunk was appreciated, but the second time, soggy undies, so not cool. They have these body dryers and when we first saw people using them I scoffed but the second time I suggested they might not be such a bad idea. Well turns out they cost a pretty penny, bad idea, lol.

We ran over to see what she was painting - night scene - way to cheat legoland!

This is mini-land which, when, I read the reviews online, everyone seemed to rave about. It was cool but I kept thinking they picked quite boring scenes to spend thousands of hours on, for example, airport runways, boat docks, I dunno! I'm hard to impress I guess :p

 The train was one of the few things we didn't go on just because there was a line! How dare people :P

I had planned us to be there till closing, I was really worried we may have bitten off more than we could chew doing hello kitty and legoland in one day but we seriously had all but finished by 5pm. I think if we actually had to line up for any ride that would of eaten into the time but if you're lucky like us and without kids you can easily zip through the majority of attractions in a few hours.

Hello Kitty Town - Gift shop

This final post is pure eye candy, I love seeing Sanrio merchandise so thought others might appreciate it too :) The gift shop is located on the bottom level and cleverly positioned so you don't need a Hello Kitty Town ticket to enter :)

Black Wonder - Hello Kitty Town

Black wonder was the last attraction we did after the wishful studios and Hello Kitty's house, it's located down the back and we did have to line up and wait for this one. They list the times it runs outside, I believe every half an hour - so you could just rock up on the dot but unfortunately Ben and I still didn't have a watch, so we just waited like gimps :p

The story behind black wonder is that Hello Kitty and her boyfriend Dear Daniel have been kidnapped and taken to Kuromi's Black Wonder castle. Everyone gets a lantern and you have to follow clues which will lead you to five letters, spelling out a word and setting Hello kitty and Daniel free, if that sounds slightly confusing, it is and even more confusing when you're inside. Ben and I shamefully got one of our letters wrong. At the end you go up to a lady at a counter who basically told us the answer and then you get a print out certificate of how you went (we got a B) :p knowing the five word answer now it was pretty shameful we got it wrong, lol.  I'm sure you guys might even be able to guess :P

Poor Hello Kitty! The tone of this attraction is seriously dark, I enjoyed it but I did wonder if their target audience of five and under would share my enthusiasm

Does anyone know the name of these characters? I don't know any cute human sanrio characters like these except the twin stars

Ben with the lantern feeling around for our letter clues in the wine cellar, again, target appropriate?

Those robotos on the right were super cool and you see them when you first go in.  The idea is that you place your lantern in their stomach and then it (very!) quickly goes through your steps and your allocated symbol to look out for! Luckily Ben was paying attention at this point otherwise we wouldn't have got any of our letters :p  I'm not sure if you can do it twice but the park does seem all about do it once and get it right!
