Pentax 6x7 Portra 400

Yesterday I showed you the results of running fuji velvia slide film through my asahi 6x7 camera and today I'm sharing a roll of Portra 400. I changed the ISO in camera to 200 for this roll and then had it processed as normal + scanned using my DSLR method :) I also should say, I accidentally opened the back before the film was completed wound upon the spool, you can really notice it in the peachy shot because that was the last frame of the roll and thus the one that got hit the hardest with light. The funny thing about film is the mess ups are one of my favourite things and that peachy shot maybe my favourite from the roll!

Emaya might kill me for posting this but I still think it's a nice photo! I guess a win for digital photography, where you can just check the back of the camera for eye blinks and then take a bunch more shots without batting an eyelid :P

light leaks for the win!

I've still got a lot more learning/playing around with the Asahi to do + getting comfortable changing film rolls but I'm really excited to own this bad boy and for all the photos to come :)

Canon 1000f - Portra 400

So I used a roll of Portra 400 using my Canon 1000f at the wedding and was overall pleased with the results, like the previous time I used portra it definitely delivered reliable shots :)

STATS
13 keeps 24 fails (36 exposures - 1 freebie)

Fails Reasons: I did something I haven't done in a very long time, I didn't set my shutter fast enough for a few shots so they turned out blurry! I'm still shaking my head that I did that :p Also all the shots I took at night at the reception were horrid! The reception area had, let's just say, interesting lighting and only my b&w shots could save the day :)

Things to remember: Check your shutter speed that it's not lower than your lens, aka if you are using a 50mm lens don't have the shutter slower than 1/50th of a second or a 35mm don't go below 35! Rookie error! Also portra is reliable so if your shooting in bad lighting portra is going to capture that bad light for you :p And finally always always overexposure colour film!

Canon EOS 3 - Portra 400

Okay back to the Kodak Portra but this time in the 400. I've decided that I don't like 400 film, since my cameras all have pretty fast shutters and my lens all let in a lot of light, 100 film speed is for me and if I need to shoot in super low light conditions than I'd reach for 800 - end rant.

STATS
19 keeps 17 fails (36 roll exposure)

Fail Reasons: Not in focus

Things to remember: Portra 400 gave nice predictable shots although I'll admit slightly boring. The fail reason was largely due to doing a lot of backlit shots and using auto focus. I've since learnt to always use manual focus but this was before I had cottoned onto EOS 3's limitations. I don't think I'd be overly eager to purchase this film again. Portra is available in 160/400/800 and I think the 100/800 combo would suit me just fine :)
