Floral Friday - Native Bloom

I totally slacked off for this month's floral Friday so I'm posting an already posted photo that fits the theme pretty darn well (can I be forgiven?).  Trishie challenged us to post a Native Bloom photo with one suggestion that we could tell you a little about it as well - which I think sounded fun (thank goodness for the internet!)

The kangaroo paw comes in a variety of different types (11 species and several sub species) which I didn't know about until my wiki adventures. From pinks to yellows, blacks and green and reds with a variety of two toned goodness in between :)

Native to Western Australia (the red and green paw is WA's floral emblem) the kangaroo paw are also found commercially in other parts of the World (United States, Japan, Israel) and Australia . There sap system makes them able to survive extreme dry spells and the furry hair on their flowers determines their colours. The bud produces six petals resembling a kangaroo paw hence then name :)

So there you go! I definitely learned something and hopefully you did too - Thank-you Wiki!

Floral Fridays is a monthly photography project with different themes each month. This series is about fun and taking time out to smell the flowers. To play along, please email Trishie (trishie@underlockandkeyblog. com) for next month's theme
