Thrifty Sunday /9

It's been a while but I'm getting my butt into action and showing some more thrift store finds :)

First up my favourite cats in my cat collection as of now.

At an op shop I visit they have a fancy section aka the collectible sections aka the ridiculously expensive section! When I first spotted this blue/purple pair of cats they were $25. I was eyeing them off but at 25 it was a bit too crazy for me.  I don't know how it happened but on a subsequent visit they had found their way over to normal ceramics section now for only a few dollars *yoink* :) I was a happy person that day!

I have a terrible memory which I often feel embarrassed about.   Although only a quarter of a way through the book I'm already feeling a whole lot less brain dead.  They dispel the myth that writing notes will only result in a weaker memory, they point out that using things to help memory is awesome and different things will work for different people :)

Not sure if you can see or not but these swizzle sticks are awesome naked blue ladies. In an edition of Frankie (awesome Aussie mag) they showed someone's collection of swizzle sticks which got me wanting to start yet another collection! (It's a problem :p)

This cuckoo clock I actually got at a car boot sale, it doesn't work but for a few dollars I totally love it and it's a nice nod to my German heritage!

And lucky last this plate with the prettiest illustration on it. I umm'ed and ahhh'ed about this one, not because the price wasn't right or I didn't love it but just because, what the heck do you do with a plate that's too pretty to eat off? At the moment I have it leaning up against my craft board but I still think it's one of those awkward type of items to own and display :p

So tomorrow I'm off to Melbourne for two weeks! I hope to take lots of photos, maybe get back into the film again and share it all with you guys.  I have a tendency to drop off the face of the Earth when I go on trips so big apologies in advance, I do have some post lined up though, I mentioned before about sharing my food journey which is quite long so I've split it up into a few posts :) See you on the flip side guys!

    1. The kitties are awesome hey, did you ever find out anything about yours? Mine have a sticker on the bottom of each saying "Handcrafted QE Designs Australia" seems just to be a ceramic store on the Gold Coast, I wonder if they were cast from a mold and that's why you have a similar one? I love a good mystery!

    1. It's awesome and if you manually work the mechanism at the back you can make the bird cheep, which I thought was cute :)

    1. I'm so bad that even people I have known for a while I'll forget there name. There is a part in the book about names, that you should imagine their name in huge above there heads when you meet them - worth a try? The swizzle stick collection was so awesome hey!!! I'll try and remember to send you a few naked ladies in your next package - he he he!!

  9. Hope you're having a nice time in Melbourne! :) Your finds are always extra lovely! Those kitties! This story is that type of stories that I need to memorize so the next time Dani rushes me into a purchase I can tell him: Remember how Fee got them for only a few bucks after some weeks? I love the cuckoo clock they have always fascinated me! and love the plate, we also have one plate (of a kitty) on display, I bought some card holders (which are also plate holders) so we can display in into our living room cabinet. Yay for new collections! How were displaying them in the Frankie issue?

    1. Lol, exactly, hang out till they're cheap but then you know they might be gone too! I think I will also have to look out for a plate holder, it seems the only way to get around the plate awkwardness. In Frankie the swizzle sticks were just laid down and photographed. I have a few collections I have no idea how to display, but I think those shadow boxes or old printer drawers are the way to go :)

  10. Ok, I love that cuckoo clock! My parents loved these and had one too. I would love to find one myself :) I am taking a few days off next week from dog sitting and I am hoping to squeeze in some thrift time!

    1. Oh thrift time!! I hope you find some goodies, I literally prepare a list in my head or one paper of what I want to find and there are quite a few instances when I find my most obscure wishes - so perhaps you need to put cuckoo clock onto yours :) :)
