Whilst taking this polaroid photo the other month, I had the idea to take the same photo with a bunch of my cameras to compare! When I got my film photos back the other week, I finally had them all together to be able to do this post :)
1/ My canon film camera 1000f shot using kodak Ektar 100 rated at 400 scanned and edited using this method.
2/ My canon digital SLR 5D Mark II, shot using my 35mm 1.4 lens edited in LR
3/ shot on my iPhone 5 and edited using the photoshop express app
4/ Shot on my 636 polaroid camera using the impossible film skins edition.
I was actually super curious to see them side by side and very shocked to see the iPhone didn't lag terribly behind. The polaroid well, yeah, it's got it's own thing going on :p but the different between the film shot and the digital was also interesting, digital gave a more stock standard representations whilst the film took a slightly different direction.
So what do we think? Which is your favourite?
interesting shots fee. i think i kinda dig the first and last shots :) i'm a sucker for blurriness!
ReplyDeleteFilm all the way! Pity I couldn't take an instax shot too :P I go back and forth between digital and film all the time, as to which I prefer, part of me wants to shoot weddings solely with film but I'm not as confident with it and I do see some areas where digital trumps all. I think firstly I have to keep learning more about film - step 1!
Deleteinteresting comparison, I love Polaroids but can't get used to the pattern ones. really doesn't do it for me. too much visual clutter.
ReplyDeleteI've been digging the patterns because I feel like they make up for the terrible photos - ha ha! Maybe I'm too hard on the poor old polaroids :P
DeleteLove this. Yeah iphone camera is surprisingly good - when I went to museum recently and I found that my supposedly good compact camera struggled with low light while iphone took way better photos. But my compact camera is fairly new and I am still getting used to it :) I really like the top picture, the blurred hearts look very pretty x

I was really shocked with the iphone, obviously it's a step down quality wise but I think since we view iphone photos usually in a small way, it doesn't really matter! Phones are pretty convenient too :P I really couldn't give any of them up though, I'm crazy for my digital SLR, love film and love the ease of the iphone :)
DeleteDefinitely prefer the film one but I think those kinds of photos are meant for the iPhone. :)
ReplyDeletegood point, next time I should do the test again, with a portrait or something or other - see how they all play out with something more challenging :)
DeleteI love the first and the last one, there's a classic feel to it. film <3
ReplyDeleteFilm is definitely winning it seems!
