I'm here to show you my next clay creations. This time I had fun getting my tiny animal sculpt on, with a mini cat figurine, based on my cat Gremlin and a little penguin :)
I like to spend a lot of time getting the carving just perfect, I probably spend too much time on it but I find it a really satisfying process. I've always wanted to whittle wood which I imagine is quite a similar process :) I've found letting the clay become leather hard is the perfect time to get out the scalpel and go to town.
The tiny Gremlin was so much fun to make and I really love his little bib detail! I also tried to mimic his fur pattern but keep it simple at the same time. I left his white body unpainted because the porcelain-type clay body is such a nice colour anyway. You can also see how his body looks pretty smooth and that's after a good hour or so of sanding :)
The little penguin was even more about simplicity
I decided to put a clear gloss on his front to mimic his sleek wet fur.
I'm kind of giddy with how they both turned out and a nice reminder that putting effort and love into what you create can pay off :)
Cute! Love the little outstretched pose you carved your kitty in. Very unique and evocative shapes in both of these!

DeleteAwwww so so so beautiful!!! Love the little addition of Gremlin's birds bib :) and the pose, too cute! Cats have awesome poses, Juno usually likes to hide her paws to look like a giant puff ball, hahaha - love also the penguin simplicity, you can tell from afar that it's a penguin for sure. You're talented, girl!
ReplyDeleteThanks Damaris! Awww fluff ball! I'm always surprised Gremlin's variety of poses, sometimes the cuteness (okay most of the time!) just kills me :)
