Japanese Cute Road Work Barriers

One thing we noticed on our driving holiday were super cute road barriers, which Ben would graciously pull over and let me take photos of :) Now mind you not all construction sites had these but when they did it made my day that little bit brighter. From the reading I did here, the theories behind the cute barriers are firstly that they are calming and reduce road rage and secondly they help prevent accidents occurring in road work zones as people will (hopefully!) naturally avoid hitting the cute characters and animals. Whatever the reason though it's just another reason to love Japan!!!

Which one if your favourite? I'm tempted to say the hello kitties but then the bunny and penguin are pretty darn special!

  1. I've seen these cropping up around Instagram and I am totally obsessed with them. :D The Hello Kitty with rainbows are my favorite, obviously. xo

  3. I remember seeing some of these when we were in Japan, but nothing quit this cute. I absolutely love how even the most mundane objects are designed to delight in Japan.

    1. It's so clever and for me it's such a simple change of mindset, like "hey we need these for practical reasons - why not make them special?"

  4. the reason behind the cute designs is actually really fascinating - i think normally a person would think japan = cute road signs, why of course! but there is always a functional reason!
