The Farm

I'm not sure if these images will just satisfy the reminiscing in me or if others will appreciate them but I do love filling my blog with things I love :) Dad's parents lived on 10 acres, the other week, I went back to have a stroll around and take some photos.  There were objects that gave instant flashbacks and little things that made me smile.

Goodbye King street Trees

I've already posted this on my facebook and I normally keep my fb-world and blog-world seperate but I thought this was important as a blog post, documenting my life happenings :)

So two houses ago, actually the first house I lived in with Ben after I broke my ankle, was a share house we called King Street (for a super obvious reason). This place sat on top of prime real estate and us renters were just filling a void until it got sold. Well it was sold and we moved out and it sat there for a year or so doing its thing, until our friend posted a photo of its now vacant block. I'm still in shock thinking of all the amazing trees they pulled down in place for a childcare centre. I'm shocked that years of growth and beauty can't win against a car park or that they couldn't at least keep a few of the trees in.

I went to photograph the block and saw a large graff piece which in turn had me smiling from ear to ear. As I was taking photos a neighbour walked over and asked if I was responsible for the sign. I had to laugh and then explained my interest in the house. He told me they are going to put in some medium sized trees and also pointed out a sign about using the cut down trees to re-purpose into furniture for the day care - a sort of peace offering. In my head I still can't understand it, don't kids love trees? Actually wait, I totally understand it, real estate is big bucks and they paid a lot to be able to do what they want with it. Still the whole thing just left me feeling incredibly sad.  I dug through my Flickr and compiled a bunch of pretty photos of the yard and trees and plants as a tribute of sorts and the only thing I knew to do :) I miss you trees and I'm sure lots of other do to!

Looking back through my flickr I was so grateful of every single photo I had taken (although I'll admit a little sad that I didn't get a more documentary-overall-photo of the block!).  Sometimes I feel like a weirdo for taking so many photos, sometimes people will comment that I should just enjoy the moment and I get super guilted.  At the time, you'll never think you'll forget a moment but I know I do (made worse by my super clumsy memory). King Street was a good reminder that photos are important to me, not to worry by how many I take and ignore any conflicting comments :P

and the sign...

I honestly think the pecan and macadamia tree, the frangipani flowers, the birds and the butterflies, the shade and the prettiness win out over furniture and play equipment.
