Another thing I collect are feathers, I found a cute spoon collectors shelf to house them all in but when I went to photograph them for this series a lot had been eaten by moths (even though I had a moth bait in the shelf!) Do any of you collect feathers and do you have a good way to stop them deteriorating? By the way I only think they were moth damaged because I remember Mum saying my little's brother's collection suffered that fate!
I seemed to also have acquire a lot of peacock feathers so they get there own photo.
The colours of feathers is one reason I love them so much!
And
below is a red-tailed black cockatoo feather that Karla gave me for my birthday. I
think he may too of suffered from the moth disease but as Karla said it
looks like he's been in some wicked fight!
All
my feathers I've found on the ground or others have found for me. Ben
working out in the desert is a big help and Karla my old room mate is
always gifting them to me too. The big red and blue macaw feathers were from my Grandma's friend's house, her son being a bird breeder :)
ooh pretty collection :-) peacock feathers are such pretty colours!
ReplyDeleteespecially when you shine them in the sun too :)
Deleteoh my gosh. such a pretty collection. where did you get so many peacock feathers? i think it's so special when friends know what you love and what you collect. i once knew someone who loved turtles and another penguins so anytime i saw turtle or penguin anything i wanted to get it for them!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to sound really morbid but my friends Karla and Lowie found a dead peacock once and took some of it's feathers and the biggest peacock feather in my collection is one Ben found for me. Apparently it's bad luck to take peacock feathers but I definitely appreciate them so hopefully that offsets the bad luck!
DeleteThat's really nice looking out for your friends, my little brother collected penguins so I always look out for him too!
Fee you do have beautiful collections! I am so happy that you have decided to show them, the pics of all the collections would look amazing framed side by side. It's a shame to read that the feathers get damaged with age! maybe there is certain product like the ones to dissect animals? but on the other side it looks as it would completely ruin the texture and softness, so ignore my suggestion ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Damaris :) Truth be told I haven't really investigated how to properly keep them - oops! Should probably get onto that :P
DeleteWhat a beautiful collection! The peacock feathers are especially gorgeous. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Erin!

DeleteThis is such a beautiful collection, Fee!!! And so wonderfully photographed. Now I want to start a feather collection too.
ReplyDeleteYou should Trishie :)
Deleteuau <3
ReplyDeletei cannot have feathers where the cat can see them because their hunter insting appear and they want to destroy them ahahah
Ah true! Gremlin hasn't had a chance to see them yet but I'll keep that in mind :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful. we don't have that many colourful birds over here in northern Europe... unfortunately. I used to collect feathers as a kid and simply had them in a flower vase on my desk. they got dusty, but I never had problems with moths...
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of having them in a flower case for display that sounds extra cute :)
DeleteFeathers are so photogenic! These are beautiful :)
