Book Review - Three Birds Renovation

three birds renovation

Erin, Bonnie, and Lana, make up the Three Birds, a powerhouse trio in the Australian renovation scene.  A quick google will give you an idea of their style; clean modern (lots of white!) and always impeccable details and styling.  As of 2021 they're up to house renovation number 13 and they share their process via a high production video series (released on youtube) and an info-rich Instagram and website.  This book provides a cheaper more accessible option to their top-tier reno school offering.  No doubt the reno school is more tailored and comprehensive but this book is still jammed full of info!

They don't shy away from offering super practical tips with beautiful photos to match.  The book only falls short for me because I don't 100% fit into their demographic.  Their business model is aimed at clients with $200,000+ budgets and for tradie-based renovations.

That said I did jot down a bunch of notes for my own reno and I'd happily recommend the book to others on their own renovation journey.

8.5/10

LOUNGE TIP: Avoid a timber table on a timber floor, break it up with a rug underneath.  I also loved how they used floor lamps in their lounge styling and one hero pillow on a couch.

OFFICE TIP: I loved how Bonnie's office (not pictured above) has the desk facing outwards.  The book will definitely let you pick up on little details you might not have thought about!

BEDROOM TIP: Layers on the bed make it cosy and inviting, and an artwork (or something of interest) hung directly above the bed for some pretty styling.

OUTSIDE TIP: Spray paint gutters and downpipes same colour as house to hide them

KITCHEN TIP:  Satin paint for kitchen cabinetry, floor to ceiling cabinetry for a refined look, open shelves in the kitchen allow for pretty styling (greenery, cookbooks, bowls, artwork) and no overhead cupboards if your kitchen is small!

BATHROOM TIP: Use cheap white tiles where you can and splurge on the expensive tiles for feature places in your bathroom.  Plus I loved their use of nude grout, over a plain white.

If you love their style, you'll definitely find value in this 240-page book.

/Book Review sets out to share some of my favourite library finds, encouraging others to do the same :)
