Cooloola Rocks and Minerals Shop

As I said in my last post, on the the way back from Mothar Rock pools we pulled over at our favourite gem shop (okay it's the only gem shop I know!)

An amazing shop full of curiosities!

Spot the smurf!

They also have this secret section behind a curtain where things glow - oooh!!

If you ever find yourself headed to Gympie, it's definitely deserving of a stop in :)

Collections - Nature

I have a wooden display box with lots of things I've collected in, so this week's collection is from there. When I say "I've" collected, the truth is that the majority of rocks have come from Ben - he works out in the desert and thus is able to stumble upon some amazing finds - well I find amazing anyway :)

I kind of wish I knew more about any of these, my room mate Karla is really into rocks and gems and crystals and has been teaching me a bit but all I really know is I think they're cool :)

My crystals and gems, some are from the gem shop and some that Ben has collected for me :)

And lastly my insects, pretty small collection but I'm always on the lookout :)

Gympie Gem Shop

On our way home from the camping trip we finally stopped in at a Gem Shop we had driven past countless times before. It always seemed slightly odd and the fear of finding ourselves inside, awkwardly standing around made the prospect of stopping uninviting. This time though we must have been feeling courageous or maybe it was safety in numbers that saw us pulling into an almost empty car park.

It was pretty much how I imagined it would be inside, a treasure trove full of years worth of collecting, by a grumpy old couple.   When we walked in the older lady was clearly fed up by a sweet pair of boys who couldn't make up their mind which gems to buy, patience obviously not her forte :p

We still had fun exploring and I went home with three pretty gems. Ben remarked as we were leaving that I happened to pick the most obnoxiously girly and fake gems from the whole shop, and when I looked down at our two different piles, examining Ben's earthy choices, I had a little chuckle at my selection :p

I'll make sure to post a photo of the gems I picked :)
