Gremlin Turns Two

Ever have an awesome idea for a blog post and then at the last minute you realise you need your cat to help you out for it to work and then you laugh at yourself for even thinking it could work - yup that was me :p lol

So the plan was, make Gremlin a birthday hat (tick!) set up my white back drop (tick!) get Gremlin onto white backdrop, put on his collar and his hat and take a photo :) Btw I used this template for the hat and just random craft accessories in my craft box :)

Instead of that extremely well thought out plan there instead was a bit of this

And a bit of that (I did manage the collar - can you tell???) :p

Some of this

And that (come on how cute is it, I have no idea why Gremlin rejected the offer to wear it :p)

More of this!

And then a funny little thing happen, Gremlin went behind the backdrop and invented an amazing hiding game for him and Peaches to play which I thought was pretty ingenious and offered much hilarity for me!

 A sort of cat whack-a-mole :p

My tradition for Gremlin's birthday is to give him a fancy dinner and then watch Gremlins. Ben says I will tire of this tradition real quick and maybe I will but I love that I might be able to start quoting Gremlins in the next five years or so :p #lifegoals

Happy Birthday Gremlin - I love that you know me so well that you've worked out how to not participate in my impromptu photo shoots. I'm sure Peaches will catch on soon as well :p

Reindeer in training Gremlin

I can't think of a better blog entry for Christmas than showing you the close up pics of Gremlin in his costume :)

Merry Christmas you guys, thanks for reading my blog and having rad blogs yourselves, it's been a fun blog year for me :) I want to do a year in review post which I selfishly like doing for myself more than anything. I think that's one of the awesome things about blogging it provides a space for memory collecting/storing :)

Okay I'm keeping this short and sweet...

Stay safe and cheerful!!

Guitars Case Gremlin

I often find myself excitedly yelling at Gremlin "stay there till I get my camera". Mostly Gremlin moves from the said cute position but in this case (pun intended) it must of been too comfy :)

I'll happily admit I can never get enough Gremlin :)

Next to get him on a synthesizer

Gremlin Update

In five days Gremlin turns five months old and he has gone from this little dude...

To this slightly bigger dude...

I'm actually sitting at my blank screen wondering where to start. There is so much to say about gremlin but I'm super tempted to just write "he's awesome" knowing the line doesn't really do him justice but perhaps prevents me looking like a weirdo who loves her cat way too much.

Oh heck I love my cat way too much :p

Ben has gone back to work, two and half weeks down, less than 4 to go. He's been doing this work away business for a few years and I've adapted pretty well but I have to say this time has been so much easier. My cold winter bed has the delightful new addition of purring cat who curls up close to my head and falls asleep. He sleeps as long as I sleep too (which is often super long) unless something wakes him and then he bites my toes and harasses me. Maybe in another six years that won't be so cute.

Before Ben left we tried to do as much leash walking as possible + baths and car trips. He is 100% okay with cars, 50% okay with the walking and 15% okay with baths.

Luckily gremlin will eat anything so the treat system seems to work for us. I'll admit I haven't been doing the baths or walking since Ben has been gone, I feel like it's a two man job (bathing might even be a three main job) and I wuss out. We bought gremlin a backpack for when we go on trips that are a bit too crazy to expect a cat to walk. It came with a drawstring closure which although marketed as a pet backpack obviously wasn't too well designed so I sewed in heavy duty velcro and sealed it good (or so I thought).

Lesson for the day - cats can open Velcro (next step a zip!)

Does anyone have any hints and tips for me? I know the walking could definitely be better, Gremlin seems to dictate where we go or meows so we'll pick him up and carry him - which I'm a sucker and do. I'll definitely take on some words of wisdom if anyone has them :)

In short Gremlin is awesome - I actually feel sad for all the time we spent sans cat, I'd also happily adopt another cat as well :)

Too much?

The best dressed Kitten

Now it's time to show you the best dressed dude at the party, a dude named Gremlin!!

I saw this waistcoat looking thing, at a thrift store, hanging up in the kids section. At first I wasn't really sure what it was but I got the idea in my head that it could possibly be for Gremlin, so I found a cat shaped plush toy, tested it out and hurrah! When I bought it to the counter the ladies were picking it up asking what it was, I kind of stayed quiet until one of them said "ah it's a waistcoat for a teddy bear" yup yup *nod nod* then the line of questioning turned to me removing said teddy bear waistcoat off a teddy bear as it didn't have a price tag, yikes! Anyway they sold it to me, gremlin didnt mind wearing it and the rest is history.

Ahh so handsome! He also got out of wearing it an hour or so into the night just to verify that I'm not a cat torturer :p

I wonder if it was for a teddy bear?

Gremlin the kitty

My blog has been neglected and will most likely continue to be because Ben and I finally got ourselves a kitten!! Oh man I really can't express how happy I am, I'm not even sleeping my excessive hours anymore because I want to get up for kitten love :)

So the past week we were looking around at a few different kittens, most kittens fell through, but there was one kitten that Ben had nicknamed Styles who I was secretly (or not so secretly) rooting for. On a random side note he was given the name Styles because of his hairdo and thus sharing a common link with some popular boy band guy - Harry something or other :p Anyway, we went to go look at Styles and straight away lovely owner Luke told us one of the kittens had been taken and I was sure it was going to be Styles but it wasn't.. *suspense builds*

Mamma cat Nala had had five kittens, two Ginger & white tabbies, a black kitten and two black & white guys. Ben was sold on the little black kitten but I was still rooting for Styles. Luke told us that when Styles was born he named him Gremlin - being the only longed hair dude of the bunch and sharing a surprisingly similarity with his movie counterpart. Ben and I had previously thought of a few names but we were both instantly sold on his new name :) After a two second negotiation with Ben, a Gremlin was in a box coming home with us. That part was actually extremely difficult - taking him away from his mum, brothers and Luke. I hadn't really prepared myself for it and honestly I just wanted to cry especially after Luke had told us Gremlin was his favourite :(

On the way home Gremlin was meowing, missing his family and it was super sad but we kept reassuring him and letting him know he was coming to a new home where he would be super loved. We're on day five now and he has adjusted amazingly. He started off hiding under chairs but now he is one super tree dweller (any Jackson galaxy fans out there?) bouncing all over the sofa tops and cuddling with everyone. We play with him, take him on a daily car trips and have regular harness practice so will be able to go for walks with him. He is doing so awesome at everything, even the visit to the vet went better than we had expected :) I honestly love him so much, he is super soft and I just want to smoosh him against my face all the time, heck maybe I even do.

Since this is my first kitten ever, do you lovely cat people have any advice? Our aim is to get him adjusted and comfortable with things that might not be so easy to do when he is all grown up but I'd love to hear advice or maybe even things you didn't do with your cat as a kitten that you wish you would have? Probably the most important thing is just to make him feel super loved and hopefully we're succeeding at that :)

Love you Gremlin!
