Low Expectations Road Trip - Coalstoun Lakes

After saying goodbye to our lovely hosts for the night, we embarked onwards towards Gayndah but before had a few things on our itinerary to cross off...

Congarra Rock, Coalston Lakes and Ban Ban springs, all sounding pretty cool in my books but again...low expectations! These expectations were definitely needed when our first try to get to Congarra rock, saw us four wheel driving in a two wheel drive and then being stopped by a road block. We gave up and headed off to see these Coalstoun lakes. Ben's Mum spoke about a Cemetery at Coalstoun lakes which got us excited. To be honest the cemetery and some corn fields were all we could see at Coalstoun lakes.

We stopped in at the only local shop in town (if you can call Coalstoun a town) to inquire about the lakes which according to our map should have been right in front of us. We chickened out after waiting in the store and hearing the conversation between the shop keeper and a local which pretty much went like this "when you kill your pigs let me know". You know you're in the country when the topic of conversation isn't the weather but when your pigs are going to market! We explored a bit further to find the lakes on our own, went down some people's property (turned out to be quite a reoccurring theme to our trip!)

In the end we finally gave up on the lakes, but not the all elusive Congarra rock...stay tuned!
