Palko Horse Sculpture

Whenever we go somewhere and the person we're with has an invested interest in the area - aka many stories to tell, Ben and I invented this little tune we sing that is literally just three words, said in a sing-songey way..."reminiscing with *insert name of person reminiscing*" okay that might be a pretty lame story but the point of it all is when I'm with Ben in Caloundra (his childhood town) I have to sing that tune ALOT! Even though I do the occasional eye roll or finish off the story I've heard before, it's actually made me fall in love with Caloundra that little bit more :) Which randomly brings us to the horse sculpture, a sculpture Ben said fascinated him since he was a little.  As Ben was explaining the fascniation he looked over at me and said "should we turn around and go have a look?" :)

As far as we could tell the sculpture belongs to the company Palko who Google kindly pointed us into the direction of a billiards company.

But why the random bust and the horses??

The sculpture also very randomly sit behind the building wedge up on the fence overlooking onto the main road. When Ben got close enough to them he was super shocked to see their finer details, craftsmanship and that the whole thing was marble and not some cheap concrete throw together he had imagined for all those years!

I personally love the juxtaposition of the wire fence and the vines and the whole caged animal connotations.

What I really want to know is why they were commissioned and what do they have to do with billiards and heck why are they stuck in such a random position for so long?

I also wonder if they'll still be there in another twenty years for someone else to reminisce overall.

(love you ben)

    1. It definitely seems to be in the oddest place, I'm wondering why they didn't put it at the front of their business?? So weird!

  5. That is a beautiful sculpture. And I love that little story about the singing. Yangkyu and I randomly have songs too and it's just something that no one else will understand (or even find it funny) but we get a kick out of it all the time :)
