Prom Party

So I talked about only taking a handful of photos on my other camera (that one not rigged up to the photo booth station) so here's those photos for you.

Above was our prom King and Queen voting station.  There were voting instructions framed to the left (hidden by balloons in the pic) and then the sashes and crowns and the trophy (for best dancer) on display.

The vote box, which I made just by wrapping a box in shiny fabric I had lying around. I also had left over, from the sashes, some silver scrapbooking letters to spell out 'vote' (it's the little things people!)

I also mentioned about having instructions on the tripod in the photobooth area, again I'd definitely recommend physically showing people how to work the camera as well :)

You can see the DJ set up area - I actually think this was taken the next morning judging by the beer but you get the idea :) The aftermath that was the next morning did look incredibly photogenic so I'll share those trash photos with you guys too!

And a close up of the vote box :)

Ben got me a corsage which was awesome and matched my dress awesomely :) I wore a heart shaped locket with a picture of us two together inside *cheese*

As you came into the house I had a box of corsages set up that people could take and wear, I think I ended up with around 25 of them and even though it was a last minute idea it turned out to be a nice thought :) Tomorrow I'm sharing some close ups of the corsages to give you more of an idea of how they looked too.

The crowns and trophy on a shelf that lowy actually put up for us. We bought the trophy from an op shop, made a new plaque out of fimo clay, which we then spray painted gold. The guy on top was given a fresh coat of gold paint and I even gave the wood sides a new coat of varnish, so it turned out pretty pimp by the end. The trophy was actually for a cricket award but the guy on top sort of looked like he was dancing - we just gave him a tutu from some frilly ribbon that I had lying around and bob's your uncle :)

Our room mate Daz is a musician so we got him on board to DJ for the night, we did a call out on Facebook for music requests and I left the music duties to Ben and Daz :) Daz also had led string lights, a light machine and a black light, so our lighting was pretty rad!

Ben getting his dance on :)

And DJ Daz :)

Thanks for playing along, I hope the few photos I did take gave an idea of the set up.  I was initially thinking it would be outside but I'm so glad someone mentioned we should set up in the lounge, it gave our few decorations more oomph and also perfect if the weather would have turned out dismal. The weather was actually lovely so we were able to have a little chill out area outside which was nice - did I mention it was one super fun party? lol (maybe just once or twice!)

Prom Prep

Finally time to start sharing all the prom party goodness. It's been over a week since the party and I'm now just coming down from my prom high. What an amazing birthday, dare I say my favourite one so far! Today I'm going to share all the sneaky photos I took as we set up. I was pretty much diy-ing to the last day and the balloons ended having to be blown up on party day. As the clock hit midday and I'd only blown up a quarter of the arch (those things take a crazy amount of balloons) I definitely had a moment of questioning whether or not it would all come together but it did and it was amaze-balls.

My roommates jumped on board and each had there own projects going on for the party. Ben and I had scoured bins at midnight for cardboard (I was thinking I'd need them for the structural base of the balloon arch but after a quick google found out I was super wrong) so we ended up using the cardboard for wall decorations. Above you can see Ben spray painting the stars and hearts which we spent most of a day (before the party) cutting out with some crazy blisters to prove it.

On the left you can see the balloon drop Lowie had rigged up - such a fun moment of the night when we got to release balloons onto everyone :) The photo on the right is where you can see our wall decorations and also that semi arch the moment I was thinking we weren't going to get it all done in time. I had a slight bridezilla moment but I pulled myself back into line. Actually I sat alone in the house and got my sad frown face on and little Gremlin came over and cheered me up and then I was back to blowing up those balloons and getting light headed all over again :p (so worth it btw!)

The balloon arch at the half way point and Lowie and Karla filling the balloon net with balloons

Apart from the sheer number of balloons required to make the arch my guess would be just under 200, it was pretty easy to put together. I literally sewed 4 balloons together with thread and needle and then sewed this to another bunch of four balloons and kept the process going. I used balloon weights on either side of the arch to keep them on the ground and then we had anchor points (using thread) along the wall and roof to keep the balloon arch up :)

And lastly a sneak peak at my hair. I decided a few days before, with the knowledge of my hair being super fine that curling might be the answer in creating some epic big hair. The night before I spent about an hour, rolling my hair up into rags and spent the next day (prom day) with my hair wrapped up in my hello kitty towel turban which included a fun trip to the supermarket. My mum used to wrap my hair up like this when I was little so I knew it would give me good curls, I also did some googling and worked out that the smaller I did them and the more I did the more crazy it would go.

Tomorrow I'm going to show you all the photos (well my favourite anyway) of the photo booth shots (my hair included). I'm so super proud of the photo booth it really came together and there were some amazing (and funny) shots from it. I'll also give some tips if you guys ever want to make your own DIY photo booth so stay tuned!
