Melbourne: Day 12 - 13

Day 12 we did a super fun photo shoot which I have to be a little hush hush for now. I can say it did involve a trip to Victoria Queen Markets and a makeup artist called Anna who taught Emaya and I how to make coffee :) I also got to try some amazing bagels from 5 and Dime - which has since inspired me to try bagel making for myself with some pretty okay results :)

That evening and actually still part of our shoot we ate at Trippy Taco where I got a pretty killer burrito :)

The next day, Saturday, Emaya had to work so I went a wandering.

It was fun to see the aftermath of a Friday night. I still laugh thinking about that busted piñata with the glitter and candies scattered all over the sidewalk - so many questions

Remember when I said I only ate one thing twice - due to having more things to eat than meals to eat them in, well that wrap above was my favourite thing ever and totes deserved a second round of eating!!

I'm one of those peeps who still appreciates the smell of kfc, so when I bit into this faux chicken wrap and it tasted exactly like a sweet chilli kfc wrap I almost died! Vegie bar do their veggies well, well I laugh that I picked the least veggie thing on the menu :p

Saturday night was awesome because we had our double denim party!! This party had been brewing over several months. It all started with Emaya and her friend with their photo series on Instagram - same clothes, different person. One day they wore double denim and my brain saw the potential to turn it into a mad photo project. A few back and forth's with Emaya and she was sure Melbourne peeps would be down for this idea and we could turn it into a party/photo shoot - so that's what we did. I will say, having to pack for a photo shoot, meant 90% of my luggage was photo equipment and denim but at the end of the day I think it was worth it.

The shoot was similar to my prom party set up (I even reused some of the backdrop :P) + sharpened some lessons I learned last time. I'm so happy with how it came together and how much people got on board with the idea too! We even had a clothes rack with some extra denims (we scored thrifting) in case peeps didn't come with denim or wanted to switch it up - which they did :)

If you want to see the photos, you can check them out over here. I've been meaning to set up a separate place for some photo series and I love now they have their own home :)

  3. That pinata shot would make a good creative writing prompt. And in Canada (and the US, probably) we refer to double denim as a Canadian Tuxedo.

  6. I think you can't be more amazing dear Fee! You always are such an inspiration, love love love your projects, and this double denim one is so crazy awesome. Were all the attendants Emaya's acquaintances? The results are so good! How did you set it up? Did you use a remote controller? Which lens? Or where you always (with the exception of the one that you appear in, obvs ;P) behind? Sorry for the many questions! Btw, loooooooooove the picture in the post with the couple walking in the street.

    1. Awww you are the sweetest!!! Yup all the attendants were Emaya's acquaintances - so happy how much effort everyone went too! So I packed my tripod and my 35mm 1.4 lens. I had my settings (ISO 160, f/4.5 shutter 1/200) and I used flash which I bounced off the white ceiling. For my prom party I had lights set up which was better but due to a few reasons I had to fall back onto my flash. Normally I have no troubles with needing to change out batteries at weddings but this party was a good few hours longer than a reception and the batteries died by the end - which was sad because there was quite a few missed firings and thus missed shots. There was a photographer at the party who told me about eneloops - which I have since upgraded too due to their longevity!

I bought my controller but didn't end up using it, I just took a photo of everyone as they walked in. I also told people they could get me at any point if they wanted more photos taken and I also showed them what button to press if they wanted to take their own (or well of their friends). Since I had everything on manual as well as focus, it was pretty easy. I did check the set up during the night and had to move the tripod back into position. Even though I bought my empty sandbags to prop up against the tripod, it still got moved a bit!

I was a bit worried being away from all my photo gear that I didn't have enough things with me but it really all worked out in the end, except I should of bought more batteries!!!

    2. Oh! Thanks Fee for all the details! :) 35mm 1.4 -> perfect lens :) I would be so worried to leave the photo gear with the tripod and Dani would be freaking out, he is even worse than me worrying "for nothing" ;)

    3. I'm really bad at leaving my gear just lying round - all the time. I honestly never think anything bad will happen to it but then I realise that perhaps is a bad approach - I'm trying to be better!
