Creative Mock & Submit - Nov + Dec

Time to share my final patterns of the year! I failed in making last month's due date so I'm popping up both November and December's design together in this post! These two design I'm going to be submitting to an awesome Aussie company called kip & co that do the sweetest kids and homeware designs!  

It's almost Christmas! *gasp* I'm going to pop in next week with my Year In Review which I always love to do!!! If I don't touch base before, I hope loads of joy comes your way over the next week or so!

Creative Mock & Submit - October

September was an off art month for me.  I worked on a new pattern each week and every design I hated! So I gave myself some slack and some breathing space and now I'm back fresh with October's pattern.  This pattern is the final of three I've been working on.  I've been keeping it a secret who I'm submitting the three designs to, until now - anthropologie! Definitely, a dream place to see a print!  In my travels, I watched a video (potentially doing the viral rounds?!) which was all about not saying no to yourself.  Which I love.  Essentially the message is about going for the big things in life and letting others tell you no, rather than stopping yourself before you've even started.  I'm prepared to hear crickets from Anthropologie or a big fat no but at least I didn't say no to myself :) :) Give it a try!

I really wanted to do a seaweed design (after many failed attempts) I came up with this jeweled beauty which I love!

Creative Mock & Submit - August

August and the second in what will be a three-part submission to a mystery company! I'll let you know who it is next month :)  For this month though I was inspired by all the nasturtium I planted in our garden - so pretty!

Creative Mock & Submit - July

As I mentioned I skipped over June's pattern (life happened!) but I'm here with July's which is going to be part of a three-piece submission.  I'm going to be reaching for the stars with who I'm going to submit to (why the hell not?) but I'll reveal who once I've finished. The first pattern I've designed is birds and volcanos. I actually worked on this for my spirityou art prompt but I have no issue with repurposing :)

Creative Mock & Submit - May

This month's Creative Mock & Submit is a week late because I originally painted the design, scanned it and then went about digitally vectoring it - time consuming (for me!).  After I was finished with the digital design I realised it lacked the original magic of the painted version.  So I repainted the design in some updated colours and cleaned it up in photoshop.  I'm submitting this month's piece to Melbourne company, Gorman known for its outrageously bright and happy designs. Last year they launched their kid's range, Gorman Playground and since, it's always been a dream of mine to design kid's clothing it was a no-brainer to head in that direction.

The design emerged out of my current obsession for rainbows and patterns + my love of all things nature. I thought it would look super neat as a one-off design on a plain white tee, but also in a repeated design or even as a pillow! How fun would that be!

Creative Mock & Submit - April

This month's Creative Mock & Submit challenge was easy, I had a dream of doing a peacock pattern and contacting the lovely Justina of Jungalow fame.  I had a few sketches but ultimately decided to keep the blue iconic peacock colour with an art deco twist.  What I like about this design is how it fits nicely into a repeated pattern :)

For this month's challenge, I conjured up a design for my favourite sock company - Bonne Maison.  I was originally going to draw some Japanese topiary, cloud trees, but in the end, a simple heliconia design won out :) Maybe the cloud trees will make an appearance later in the year!

Creative Mock & Submit - Feb

For Feb's Creative Mock & Submit challenge, I decided to enter the life is a mesh scarf comp. It had to be a scarf I would be ecstatic to wear myself.  I came up with a few designs but ultimately my love of orchids won out in the end :)

Creative Mock & Submit - Jan

 

For this year's monthly challenge, I'm setting the goal to create a design every month with the added caveat that I have to submit it to a company I love as well.  I walked away stronger, after doing my 2019 fear-based challenge.  In 2020 my challenge revolved around sharing my poetry publically (big fear!) and again facing my fear, head-on, was super rewarding.  For 2021, I'm embarking on something I've always wanted to do (design work) but have conveniently side-stepped putting myself out there.  My plan is to work on a new design every month, publish it on my blog and submit the design at the same time.  I'll give updates during the year if the designs end up being used (or not).  I have a huge fear that my work will be rejected.  The idea of doing this behind the scene sounds very comforting but the blog's accountability hopefully stops me from chickening out!
