Thrifty Sunday /20

Thrifting is awesome and I'm so lucky to have a bunch of great thrift shops in my area :)

Definitely still on that home beautification kick so this book was a fun read!

I see a lot of crochet blankets at thrift store but this one has the most beautiful bright colours - instant love and I think it was $2 which kind of makes me cry when I think about the materials + the skill and effort involved to make this!

I'm only a tenth of the way into this book but so far I'm loving it. Reducing waste is an area I really want to improve upon and hopefully this book gives me a good kick up the butt!

Some awesome finds of late!

How cute is this sweatshirt! For a fraction of a second I was not going to buy it because it has velvet letters and I have a bit of a phobia about velvet but I've worn it a few times and it hasn't bothered me :)

I'm glad it was still there because I've been using it non stop and it makes my afternoon tea drinking sessions extra special

Thrifty Sunday /14

Time to show you some of my recent op shopping finds :)

Two Expo 88 (Oz the platypus) fridge magnets, I rambled on about expo 88 in this old blog post, if you're keen to know more :)

Have you ever started a collection and then had the realisation that space might be a factor for this collection to continue? That's how I've been feeling about Pyrex (which I see quite a lot of it whilst thrifting) so I've been way selective and also wondering if I should just stop now - eep?!

This knitting book is half super amazing and half wildly inappropriate 

White male in aboriginal themed sweater = what were they thinking???

The photography is amazing though, the country setting with all the models looking crazy sad! How great is that cardie with the Fosters design (type of aussie beer) on the far right!

I would love love to be able to knit these patterns, Vegemite and Ned Kelly and a koala cosey! Every thrift mission I browse the jumper rack in case I found an amazing home made knitted jumper #dreamfind

The parakeet and kanga are so good!!

I also picked up a bunch of yen mags for a dollar, I've got a big stash of Yen and Frankie now that I need to read ASAP!

These snowflake Pyrex dishes, were cute and small = win win!

A little plastic moth brooch I purchased in Biggenden for 2 dollars :) Moths have a special place in my heart and it's rare to see them in jewellery form!

Another name mug for my collection (also super hard to find!) and a divided casserole dish which I've been taking to BBQs recently and its been the perfect size

and lucky last, a swan holder probably for toothbrushes but I'm using it for pens on my desk :)

Such a rebel :P

Expo 88 exhibition at the Museum of Brisbane

Last time I was at the Museum of Brisbane there were five other people, this time I had to fight to get into a lift! Still at the city hall, in Brisbane but with a brand new space on level 3, Museum of Brisbane is really bringing the crowds, or maybe it's the Expo 88 bringing the crowds.

I was four when I went to Expo, so I have very vague memories but I do know that Brisbane people are so damn proud of Expo 88! I wish I could buy my 28 year old self a ticket because from what I can gather it was pretty much a dorky 80s version of Disneyland/Seaworld, they even had a water ski show! They also had a lunch time and a night time parade which is what the current Expo "Light Fantastic Rewired" Exhibition at the Museum revisits. The exhibition also displays souvenirs, "futuristic" uniforms, Oz the platypus mascot (interestingly designed by Bob Moore, a character artists for Disney) and a whole bunch of sketches and photos and models of the floats! Unfortunately they couldn't bring in the real floats, due to sizing and also because Expo 88 was designed to be a pull down event and everything sold off...sad! The models of the models are cute though and well worth a visit, just maybe don't go on the weekend or a rainy day like I did :p
