Saying Goodbye to Dad

On Tuesday night my Dad passed peacefully in his sleep. The coroner explained it was a history of heart disease in his family. That his heart filled up with blood and he most likely slipped into a coma before passing away. When I saw his body lying in his bed, a stillness to know that life had already left, he was lying in such a picturesque position, on his back, tucked into his blanket with his head facing the window. I rubbed his arm and told him thank-you for everything and that I loved him. I loved my Dad so much. I love my Dad so much. I'm still talking to him and he's an amazing reassuring presence in my life. I'm letting the tears falls and the gratitude be in abundance. The future seems daunting, too hard to enter. I catch myself in the past and it's heartbreakingly sad. I walk past the gifts he delivered to me, the limes on the counter and his bottles of kombucha and his mushrooms that are still growing. They'll eventually die too. We'll all eventually die and I wonder about our communication about grief and death. We had no words left unsaid to each other just a future unwritten that makes me terribly sad to think he won't be apart of. I know I have to redefine his presence in my life but at the moment I'm just letting my body fill with grief and rid it and repeat, the only thing I know how. I'm so grateful we spent so much time in nature together, so the trees and the tiny mushrooms and the weird fermented food will always remind me of him. He poured so much love into our relationship that at times I felt a little undeserving to receive it all but my heart has so much gratitude and I still feel immensely loved.
When he left he took a part of my heart with him and I'm okay for him to keep it. He said he didn't want to leave but he needs me to keep going because my future is one of an amazing happy life.

Goodbye Grandma

On Thursday night my Grandma passed away. It's been an unforgettable two months, finding out her diagnosis of leukaemia on the 10th of October and then saying goodbye on the 13th...two dates firmly imprinted on my brain. I feel like I'm living in a very surreal World, one where people actually die and leave their bodies, where bodies are just shells. What an incredible experience we get to have by living in this World. I'm thinking of all the times, everyday, I've simply taken that experience for granted. My Grandma is one incredibly missed lady. Her funeral is this Wednesday and its all gone so quickly, I haven't even had time to process that it's only three days away. It feels like a lifetime, but only a moment ago I watched her die. So many words in my mind, but I want to fill this entry with fireworks. I know this is silly but the day Mishka passed away, Ben and I headed down to the plaza and fireworks started to go off, we stood and watched them and smiled, "fireworks for Mishka" we couldn't imagine a more perfect send off. On Friday night I sat in the park, in a dark spot by myself and watched our town's annual fireworks display. I smiled through some tears and thought how amazing that Grandma gets some fireworks too. So here are some firework photos for anyone who has ever felt the empty place left by someone special and the reminder of how lucky we all are to still be here :)

Goodbye Mishka

Death seems to be wanting me, to pay attention lately. Mishka took her last breath Saturday morning and now her bodies lies out in bens garden. I noticed since coming back from Grandma's she wasn't the same cat I had preciously left. Her meow was different, she sat in odd spaces with wide eyes and she seemed to cry at Ben and I. The last time I saw her, the cute pinks in her nose and ears had all but vanished, greyness had taken over and death had embarked. It's an amazing journey life, for all creatures, I smile and hope Mishka had an amazing one :). She definitely helped me in my own journey of overcoming my cat fear, thank-you Mishka for sticking it out with me, you are very missed.

We love you Mishka!
