Day 6 -Jungle Surfing and Chillagoe

Yup all geared up and ready for some jungle surfing action! I was actually really nervous and half not wanting to go but I gulped back the fear and went along with Ben's plan to Jungle Surf. What is jungle surfing, it's five platforms set up amongst the trees, offering a different perspective to the rainforest, you harness up and then travel on wire from one platform to the next all with helpful guides ranging from the nerd guide to the cool English dude guide!

I'm a wuss and super afraid of heights but it was completely non scary even when they asked up to do this..

Weee, I doubted my ability to twist myself upside down, but definitely do-able!

Aww! The only photo we have together of the trip I think :P
So that was jungle surfing we hoped in the car, saw the cassowary family, did I mentioned we saw a cassowary family :P lol and headed out of the Daintree

I made sure to snap a pic of the Big Croc Head just before the mossman river crossing and then it was on the way to Chillagoe...the landscape dramatically started changing!

We instantly liked Chillagoe when we noticed a giant dinosaur as we drove in!
Chillagoe's claim to fame! (well one of them)

Mr Lasmasaur!

The night we checked into our "hotel motel" watched the sun set over the smelters and ate some bad pub food!

Day 6 - Daintree

So we woke up and decided to go explore the Daintree rainforest! We soon found ourselves getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and on a beach, un-swimmable due to stingers but hey the loveliness made up for it!

Where the rainforest meets the reef!

Even though Mission beach likes to claim the fan palms for themselves I think the daintree takes the prize!

We then went 'Jungle Surfing' but I'll pop that into another post cause this is getting far too image heavy!

As we were waiting for our tour to start, we noticed a sign pointing to
"Mason's Swimming Hole"
Yes please! Again another magical place

So pretty! Unfortunately after jungle surfing we had to say goodbye to the Daintree and head on another epic drive inland to a place called Chillagoe.   As we're driving out of the daintree, what do I spy out of the corner of my eye? A Cassowary!  I could have died,  not just one but a whole family of them. I grabbed my camera and started shooting them as they slowly dawdled across the road right in front of us. I shot about 6 shots before realising my lens cap was on *face palm* They are much like ducks in that respect, I excepted them to scamper across the road but they took their time and seemed oblivious to us even being there

I only ended up with one shot, but still, proof! So cool that in 10 days we saw 5 of the 1000 remaining!

The dad has just gotten into the bush in this pic! Aww babies!
I was seriously on a high all the way to Chillagoe

I Love Cassowaries!

Day 5 Nth QLD - Kuranda to Daintree

So after the butterflies, we stopped in at Barron Falls in Kuranda, not much to write home about, it was running a bit more dramatically last time we were there

We ended up taking the inland route to Mossman and on our way followed signs to Emerald Falls, it was a nice diversion, cool landscape!

I love the changing nature of Australian landscape which I think is quite diverse in Northern Queensland!
From above to below!

We had lunch in the sleepy yet beautiful town of mossman, surrounded by sugar cane farms

Then it was on the ferry over to the daintree where we checked into our awesome accommodation for the night

something magical about sleeping, surrounded by a rainforest!
