Ballandean
Ben has now gone back to work, I'm driving, I've still got a slight walking hobble and I'm currently living in Ben's bedroom...woah...life is a funny thing. Everything seemed to have fell together in the last few days. Before Ben left we went road tripping and I got to photograph a few more Big Things for my Big Things blog :)
We drive far too many kms to photograph a not so Big Dinosaur :p I'm so happy I have such an obliging boyfriend :) The pyramid was a lucky find, randomly on someone's property surrounded by an electric fence! We also ended up at the Big Apple before finding our way to the Gold Coast where we hung out with Ben's family...more blog posts to come! By the way I miss Ben in ridiculous amounts, a few tears were shed when he left and that night curling up in his bed without him left me feeling a whole new sort of loneliness. Fingers crossed he'll be back sooner than 8 weeks this time :)

Low Expectations Road Trip - Munduberra
Deciding not to make more fools of ourselves we would ring ahead at the other places and if worst came to worse we would just drive home :p The next step back, was that our mobiles didn't have coverage, so we had to ring the next accommodation joint literally metres away from their check in counter, thanks Ben, whilst i waited parked in a car also metres away from their reception :p.
Success! And what lovely people, two thumbs up to the three rivers tourist park, who welcomed us with open arms and we didn't even have to bunk with animals! Had possibly the worst dinner of our lives, I won't name names cause the lady who dropped of our goodies was lovely :) dinner was partly my fault after I got nervous at the pub and made Ben run back to our accommodation and order eat in, sorry Ben! Next time I won't get intimated by the country pub folk, who I'm sure we're super nice, I just get nervous sometimes with strangers. Ben even ordered the take away in the rain from the phone booth, ahh he is a good egg and less than two weeks till he is home, can't wait!

Low Expectations Road Trip - Gayndah
Gayndah was all about the big orange (a nod to the town's citrus crops) and grabbing an orange juice at the big orange. Unfortunately when I made my order, I was told they were too busy to make any orange juice that particular Saturday so milkshakes it was :p Gayndah was cool, we learnt about some train bridges, which we added to our itinerary and we played in an old school playground, where obviously the strict safety codes of Brisbane hadn't infiltrated yet, score! Gayndah also has a mascot who stands outside the big orange and he has the best name ever, Gay Dan from Gayndah! I love a town with a sense of humour plus having a hedge made in the letters of their town name, scores some fee points as well!

Brisbane Big Things
A few Brissie Big things to add to the list..the ever growing list I might add!

"Big Cicada" in Southbank. I don't know if this can be claimed as a big thing, as it's more of a sculpture sitting outside the Brisbane Museum and Art Gallery. When scouting for big things the internet is my only guide and I think sometimes people claim something when perhaps it isn't really a 'big thing' :P
The Big Boot as someone that grew up in Brisbane, I've seen the boot undergo a lot of changes, it's back now to it's original brown which is nice
My friend, Emaya, came along with me, for the next few big things, some more dissapointments though, you've be warned!
First up Yatala's Big Pie. You can't really get a good glimpse of this one, so it was two thumbs down from us
The pie's also weren't as great as I remembered them!
Next was the "Big Gun". Two words for this one...DON'T BOTHER! I think people got confused with this one cause the shopping centre is called the 'Big Gun'. The shopping centre was quite frankly, whack with a Small Cow and a Big Bull as well...random
I would definitely rate the Big Bull over the 'Everday Sized Gun' but since Queensland already has a lot of big bulls, I wasn't impressed :P
We then discovered the best big thing of the day the Big Redback Spider!
After almost missing him (you have to drive into the landscape shop, peeps!) we were pretty thrilled to see there was an actual toilet in the outhouse

Which brings us to the last Big Thing of the day, the Big Apple, again kids, do not bother! Stupid cheap trick of writing "big apple" upon this very small apple *shakes head in disgust*

Queensland Big Things - From Mission Beach to the Sunshine Coast
We said goodbye to Mission Beach at the unreasonable time of 4am for the tight 'Big things' sighting schedule....
It didn't really go to schedule though cause, as weird as it is, stopping to see a big thing, on average, increases your trip by half an hour, I didn't expect that :P
5am: Cardwell. The Big Crab
This one although right on the Bruce hwy (main road through Cardwell) we couldn't find it because it was still friggen dark, wasn't expecting that! By the time we found it (Cardwell isn't even a big place) the light was coming up, so I was able to snap a pic. I guess all's well that end's well!
7am Townsville. On trying to locate the Big Brolga (outside Townsville South Tourist centre btw) we ended up at the wrong tourist centre and completely disheartened. Eep why was this so difficult?? In getting lost though we did find, the big spider, outside the Museum of Tropical Queensland, (Wickham St), which was not even on my list...score!
If we would of kept going through Townsville instead of wondering aimlessly we would of seen the Big Brolga, no problem!

Townsville also promised a Big Melon but after spending way too much time getting lost I decided to write that one off, that was until...
BAM it's sitting in someone's property along the Bruce Hwy. The closest town sign I saw was Gumlu...
The cool thing about this one is you can go inside it!
Next was The Big Snake in Ayre.
Can't miss this one, on the Bruce Hwy in Plantation Park
He definitely earned his big name :)
Next on the list, The Big Mango, hard to miss, just make sure you don't actually go through the town of Bowen like we mistakenly did..opps. Just keep following the good old Bruce!
I think we were meant to be in Mackay not too long after nine, but the big things really set us back and I remember us getting there around lunch time. Mackay has a big Slouch Hat at an RSL. After asking a few peeps, we gave up and headed into Sarina to see the Big Cane Toad, another easy to find Big Thing, right in the town's centre
Creepy!
It was then onto Rocky and trying to locate the Big Dugong, we gave up, knowing we be back in a few days time, for Shane's 30th birthday at Agnes Waters. I decided I'd put in some more research on it's whereabouts :)
Rockhampton also has a million Big Bulls so it wasn't hard to take a least one picture..
Not as special when there are a few of them :P
At this stage, 12 hours already on the road and six and a half more hours to go, we were getting really tired. The sun was soon to be gone, and knowing we were back in a few days, meant I gave up the Big Things Photo bonanza for the day.
