Friday FIve

1) Kirra Jamison, I first saw Kirra Jamison in 2007 with her Crying Wolf Exhibition at Museum of Brisbane and have been a fan ever since. She seems to favour gouache, ink, pen and vinyl in her work with lots of cut outs and patterns, flowers and nature, very pretty!

2) Daniel Krall, love this guy's style, just brilliant you should check him out :P His profile says he teaches illustration and I thought this line was a good capture...

"his work echoes the striking lines and Technicolor tints of French comics. Daniel’s formulations mix watercolor, gouache, acrylic and pixels, served straight or on the rocks."

Love it!

3) Koren Shadmi whose website is such a delight to look through!

I mean how perfect is this image above! Ahhhh just lovely :) 

Speechless, nothing else to say but to go check him out!

4) Tran Nguyen an artist who I just recently discovered on Juxtapoz and who does really sweet magical artworks using acrylic & color pencils

5) Mooncore who unfortunately I don't know too much about or can't find much info on the net to pass on, except the tumblr site which I've linked to in the name! Still cool art though..mystery is cool right?

Friday Five

1) Mary Blair unfortunately she is no longer with us but has left behind some exciting art to remember her by. Probably best known for her association with Disney being involved in their concept art. I love her for her great colour choices and all round cute drawing style.  Google recently honoured her, for what would have been her 100th birthday which I thought was lovely :)

2) Minni Havas a Helsinki artist who obviously has some amazing pencil skills to achieve her photo realistic works of art

I wonder how many hours would have  gone into such a piece? Too many I guess

3) Josh Keyes another artist doing some amazing photo realistic work. In his profile it states his work is a "hybrid of eco-surrealism and dystopian folktales that express a concern for our time and the Earth's future." I like that his pieces are cold and natural museum-esque, definitely evokes feelings of man intruding upon the natural World which to me is always an interesting subject!

4) Matt Forsythe who has a varied design style that's so well done I just had to include him! His profile writes Matt as a comic book artist and as one of the founding members of the site Drawn! which I've been a fan of since yonks! Look at this cuteness below...eek!

I'm also excited to get my hands on one of his comics, which I'm sure would be unbelievably great!

5) Charlie Immer lucky last today, does some gruesomely cute art! Lots of inside body parts, bones and veins and blood but done in the sweetest lolly colours, pastel blue and pinks, yellows and whites that all together makes me deliriously happy!

Friday Five - Borrowed Suitcase

I was lucky enough to score a copy of 'Borrowed Suitcase' which is a zine of talented artist peeps, put together by Mel Stringer.
Here are some rad finds from it...

1)) Mel Stringer, can't really go past popping down Mel in the list, not only does she have good taste in picking artists, her art itself, is amazing! You might remember this drawing she did of me (super exciting), apart from that she draws the cutest girls, makes rad zines (big inspiration for me making me own one...which is 95% completed...stay tuned!) and is the queen of line work! Love her stuff, from her watercolours, to her computer generated art to her cute paper products..eek, check her out!

2) Ben Constantine aka plump oyster aka comic book drawer extraordinaire. Love his line work and colour and attention to detail...peeps that do comics don't get enough high art love (perhaps they don't want it), but anyhoo I'm a big admirer of the amount of effort and skill that goes into comic making.
Ben also does amazing paintings as well..too much talent!

3) Andrea Innocent, whose work I've been drooling over for far too long and for good reason...her art seems to be saturated by Japanese culture and for a second I had to re-remember she was an Aussie artist and not an artist from Japan.

I love artists who's portfolio I go through and every image gets me excited, Andrea's website is definitely gold!

4) Sonni who does the happiest brightest art around...

Just look at this art, doesn't it make you deliriously happy! Again I can see Japanese design influence, but perhaps I just have Japan on the brain!

5) Luke Pearson who I found through the nobrow blog and from there bought his comic 'Everything We Miss" for Ben who loved it! I still haven't got around to reading it myself..shame on me but I have drooled over his drawings and just his very cool style he has going on!

Friday Five - Domestic Etch Part 2

Continuing on from last week's Domestic Etch inspired friday five, here are five more creative peeps!

1) Pat Perry.

Pat has some damn impressive line work! I can see pretty much all of his work on threadless tee's which is definitely a compliment as half my wardrobe happens to be those threads :P

2) Katie Turner

Is an artist with a rad style, a little bit funny, a little bit sweet and a little bit charming!

PONY!

3) Stacey Rozich, who I love for her amazing patten work! Monsters, masked beasts, bears and fantastic mythological creatures, just a few of the things sprouting from her imagination..go check her out!

4) Stephen Chan another fab artist!

Gosh that's some jealous worthy material right there for you! too cool!!

Definitely another artist who needs to infiltrate threadless if he hasn't done so already!

5) Sophie Bastien

Sophie has a really nice way of painting using patches of colours to build up shadowing on faces. I'm definitely a lover of colours and those who use it in an experimental way, always make me smile!

And that concludes my Domestic Etch Mag Previw, the talent out there makes me super happy and yet depressingly sad all in the same breath :P

Friday Five

1) Anna Emilia an artist from Finland does some beautiful illustrative work, her art uses a subtle colour palette depicting sweet wholesome imagery! I'm probably most in love with her crazy patterns though like this one..

2)Fuco Ueda a Japanese artist who has a real distinct/rad painting style. Her site which I have linked is packed full of awesome paintings with imagery of girls, goldfish, cakes, school uniforms, the ocean...just to name a few! A treasure trove really

3) Astrid Yskout is next and I really wish I could find more of Astrid on the net because her flickr page is radness to the max! I'm definitely a sucker for sweet illustrations :)

4) Leah Giberson who creates some fantastic imagery of chairs, caravans and suburban homes. She writes in her profile...

"I begin with photographs of seemingly ordinary and mundane scenes, which I then paint directly upon to distill and reveal the visually poignant moments that exist all around us, but are often overlooked."  

Sounds like a very interesting technique!

5) Ambird aka pocket birds aka amber lynn seegmiller does art that makes me happy...for example her happy totoro painting below

She also does birds and girls and icecreams and boys...definitely worth checking out her etsy store if you're into things like that :P

Friday Five

1) Yoskay Yamamoto, this guy is just way too good at way too many things! Not only is he a fabulous painter but he is also a kick arse sculptor as well, it was very difficult to choose just one image to show you guys! Yoskay seems to be all about minamilistic characters with spaced apart almond eyes, simple noses and mouths.

In my travels I also stumbled upon his take of, pikatchu, hello kitty and astro boy all awesomely odd! Whilst goldfish, demons, fire and water seem to happily invade his work...too cool!

2) Amélie Fontaine an artist from France whos style of drawing I instantly fell in love with it's funny, cute, endearing, basically everything I want from art!

Socks and sandals...teehee!

3)James Jean who I honestly can't believe I haven't blogged about sooner. His work is simply drool worthy for me, flawlessly executed paintings, great colours, subject matters, errily cute...just ticks all the right boxes!!!

4) Ghost Patrol a Melbourne artist who draws incredibly sweet characters, experiments with different surface textures and creates magical Worlds with his art! I, like many I'm sure, have his poster from Frankie happily blu taked to my wall :P by the way the picture below is taken from his sketchbook pages on flickr, a really fun album to look through!

5) Miso

Another Melbourne artist, perhaps best know for her paste ups which often contain intricate pattern work (something I'd imagine isn't the easiest thing to put up in a hurry!)
She draws women who appear to have a story behind their eyes and executes them with some mad drawing skills! Miso reminds me of street artist Swoon (definitely not a bad thing!).  Actually I should also get around to blogging about Swoon too!

Friday Five

This week's Friday five is brought to you by some cool artists,
discovered via the good old etsy!

1) ChipmunkCheeks run by US artist Katie Vernon is first up today.

It's not wonder her profile says she is an illustrator and a florist, as all of her drawings come to life by the little bouquets she draws into her pieces.  How can you not love something as sweet as a hedgehog with flowers!

2) ilovedoodle the etsy shop run by Malaysian artist Lim Heng Swe. He writes in his profile "I love doodling, this is why all these started"
which is all the explanation you need!

Lots of cute characters fill his store, he has such a cute clean aesthetic which I love and only wish I was better at!

3) kinokogallery run by K. Kinoko Evans a female living in the US has the cutest style which brings me back to felt stained fingers tips, drawing on massive sheets of butcher paper as a kid

Happy colours and cute characters make up her store...well worth a sticky beak!

4) Bonbi Forest run by Uk artist Lee May Foster. Lee is one of those all rounder creative folk, her store is filled with the most delightful things from pendents to scarfs to beautiful artworks on paper.  Her work seems to be inspired by nature, from horses to butterflies to whales all done in a simple yet delicate way...very pretty!

5) Caroline Hwang is lucky last today, a US artist who simply makes awesome art! She definitely needs to stock her store up more, if only for my greedy self to be able to spy more on her delicious art! he he

Friday Five

Some rad artists for today's Friday Five

1) Pigologist whose art I think is so fabulous!

I was looking at her about page and I think it pretty much summed up everything I wanted to say...

"Pigologist aka Diana Goh, is a Singapore born Chinese, raised by aliens, and growing up with people of all colours. Having studied classical animation in school, it is not difficult to see how this has deeply influenced her creations. She started working as animator, character designer, toy designer and illustrated for children’s books. Currently crossing over to the illustration world as a full time freelancer, working for clients in Singapore and abroad. Her illustrations and D.I.Y toys are often driven by characters and lingered a nostalgic aesthetic that pays homage to vintage, old cartoons. She enjoys feeding dark concepts, by injecting some fun and eccentric hope"

2) Shuzo Ikeda a Japanese artist who does the most amazing wood block prints. Unfortunately he passed away in 2004 but has left behind some beautiful images! The website lists, 1960-1985 as the time he was more prominent in his image making and you can really see the 60s/70s aesthetic come through in his work, girls with huge doe eyes, a hippy colour palette and lots of nature and animals and sweetness!

3) Martine Johanna is a dutch artist who has a fantastic way of capturing the female form....she writes
"My work expands from, drawings to paintings, several experiments in 3D collage, photography and short movies. For illustrations I work with plain graphite, paper and what ever comes from these plain materials spontaneously"

I love the way she uses graphite and she's equally as talented with a paintbrush.  If you don't mind a bit of the nude female form, definitely check out her site for more amazingness!

4)Andrea Kang is an artist who does super sweet illustrative work. I had a huge smile on my face looking at her site and going through her pictures of cute bears, foxes and little girls!

Eeek! Just lovely :)

5) Lucky last is Eveline Tarunadjaja, born in Indonesia but now residing in Australia, another artist with a distinctive way of drawing cute girls! Her work has a lovely inky quality.

I love this line on her site...."Her artwork evolved from a procrastinating hobby to a passionate love affair with sugar-coated loneliness and mischievous imagery" Ahh, lovely!

Friday Five - Rah Collective

This week's five selected artists are straight from the pages of the Rah Collective Book

1) Andy Quilty, a Western Australian artist, who uses a wide variety of materials in his work including but not limited to... charcoal, oil stick, spray can, ball point pens!

Kind of amazed at the level of detail in this and would go a little bit silly starring at it in real life!

2) Chris Yee is next up and unfortunately there is not enough of this dude out on the net or perhaps there is and I'm a terrible searcher! Anyway he has the made skills with the sharpie well as far as I can tell....he need more work on the internets!!!

3 Ears aka Daniel O’Toole is a Sydney artist who has a really cool style. His work reminds me a lot of Bret Whiteley, who just happens to be one of my art heroes! Ears has a really nice free and expressive mark making style and lets face it I'm a sucker for visible sketch lines and thick paint drips!

4) Matthew Roland another Sydney artist who does sweet illustrations and favours watercolours :) He also does lots of other cool design stuff and has a really nice blog, which I need to start following!

5) Nick Boerma, again another Sydney artist who won me over with his fantastic screenprint of Anton Chigurh (aka the badie from No Country for Old Men)

I get the chills seeing this pic always a sucker for a well constructed villian!
Nick also has a blog which I will have to check out more as well!

Friday Five

Some admired artists of mine, for today's Friday Five!

1) Hideaki Kawashima A Japanese artist who paints portraits of characters with oval shaped eyes, emphasised lips and carefully thought out hair. He studied with one of my other art heroes, Yoshimoto Nara.  I think both artists have a simplistic style within their art, which for me results in visual loveliness!

2) Camilla d'Errico a Canadian artist who draws Japanese-esque girls with large manga eyes, big hair and incorporates cute animals and more recently steam punk elements *breathes out*.
Definitely appeals to my love of the kawaii!

3)Olaf Hajek is third up, a German born artist who does wonderful paintings incorporating flowers and natural elements. I love his colour palette, muddy yet bright, with a sparing, yet clever use of black. I would love to see his paintings in person to engulf all the details and the textures involved!

4) Andrew Hem is an artist who has an amazing way of creating emotion using paint. I feel for his characters that he paints, they often look forlorn and lost, wondering in their sad backdrops. I start wondering what they're doing there or what's going on in their life and I want to tell them it's all okay :P

5) Nicoletta Ceccoli luckily last for today! Nicoletta has a fantasy style to her art.  For me her works look like they have come straight out of a Princess's dream journal. Cute girls and animals are painted in a soft manner with surreal pretty landscapes to create her innocent Worlds
